Ring of Steall– Veterans Project Hike
📅 27-29 October 2026
⚠️ Limited to a maximum of 6 participants only
27-29 Ring Of Steall Glen Nevis at 9am Fort William Train Station.
you will be picked up and transported to the starting point.
Due to the nature of this route, the terrain involved, and the importance of keeping the group safe and manageable, I will be starting small with a maximum of 6 participants.
This will be the an ongoing organised hike for the veterans project. The aim is to build this properly, create a safe and supportive environment, and give people the opportunity to get back into the mountains, challenge themselves, and work together as a team.
Meeting point:
📍 Fort William Train Station
⏰ 09:00am
I will provide or arrange transport from Fort William up to the the start point car park.
For anyone travelling from further away who may struggle with the early start, you are welcome to contact me. If required, I will do my best to make space for people to stay the night before.
Essential kit:
Due to donations/contributions we can provide waterproof ponchos and some jetboils if needed.
🥾 Walking boots or suitable walking shoes
🧥 Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers
🎒 Backpack
💧 Minimum 2 litres of water (essential)
🍲 Food for the full day
📱 Phone protected from water
🔋 Spare phone battery/power bank
🧢 Hat and gloves
☀️ Sun cream and sunglasses (weather dependent)
🥾 Walking poles if required
🔦 Head torch
All equipment must be waterproofed. Mountain weather can change quickly, and preparation is essential.
We do not plan to be hiking after dark, but mountain days can take longer than expected, especially when moving as a group. A head torch is simply another safety item that should always be carried.
This is a team event. I know many of us come from military backgrounds, and there will always be a bit of banter, but we leave egos behind. Regardless of regiment, background, or experience, everyone looks after each other and we move together as one team.
The weather will always have the final say. If conditions are unsafe, the event will be cancelled. I will make that decision a couple of days before the date and notify everyone taking part.
To take part in this event, please complete the form at the bottom of the page, thank you.

Participants will still be expected to bring certain personal items, such as suitable walking boots and appropriate clothing. A full kit list will outline what we can provide and what you’ll need to bring yourself before your expedition.
