Walker’s Report
- Start near the Aber Falls car park in Abergwyngregyn — this is the most common trailhead and recognisable place on maps.
- Follow the track up past Aber Falls and along the valley toward Llyn Anafon.
- From the valley, gain the ridge toward Drum, then continue onward to Foel‑fras.
- The ascent involves open hillside and ridge walking. In normal conditions it’s steady walking with some rough turf and boggy patches.
- Return the same way, or continue to neighbouring Carneddau peaks if extending the walk.
Terrain & Features
- Open grassy and rocky terrain typical of the northern Carneddau range.
- Ridge walking provides wide vistas toward Snowdonia, the coast, and neighboring mountains.
- Summit features trig point and plateau — good vantage points on clear days.
Safety Notes
- Weather on the ridge can change rapidly; wind and mist are common.
- Navigation can be tricky off path; map and compass recommended.
- Path is less distinct in some sections, especially near Drum and ridge connects.
Tips
- The route from Aber Falls car park is popular and well‑documented.
- Bring waterproofs, good boots, food and water for a long day out.
- Dogs are allowed, but keep on leash near cliff edges or livestock.
