Walker’s Report

• Start at the car park near Lough Cummeenoughter, a standard trailhead in the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.

• Ascend via the marked path toward Cnoc na Péiste Ridge, passing the subsidiary tops: Cruach Mhór → The Big Gun → Maolan Bui → Cnoc an Chuillinn.

• Only Cnoc na Péiste is an independent mountain; the others are tops along the ridge.

• Terrain includes boggy sections, rocky scrambles, and exposed ridges; this is a Grade 1 scramble — hands required in places.

• Summits are rocky and exposed, offering spectacular panoramic views of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Brandon Bay, and surrounding valleys.

• Return via the same route or extend along the ridge for a longer circuit if conditions and time allow.

Terrain & Features

• Boggy slopes, narrow ridges, and rocky sections near the summits.

• Moderate to strenuous — basic scrambling skills and sure-footedness required.

Safety Notes

• Weather can change rapidly; bring waterproofs, sturdy boots, map, and compass.

• Navigation is essential in poor visibility; some ridge sections are exposed.

• Scrambling sections require caution; helmets optional but recommended for groups.

Tips

• Best done in dry weather to avoid boggy and slippery rocks.

• Allow a full day for ascent and descent.

• Bring food, water, layers, and sun protection.
